WHAT DOES A PRINTING SERVICES ASSISTANT DO? A Printing Services Assistant operates a variety of automated equipment required in the production of material for general distribution to IRS offices as well as to the general public. In this role, you will serve as a liaison technician, quality control agent, and general trouble shooter. You will also be required to keep production records and prepare reports. You will also set priorities, deadlines, objectives, and work independently on assignments.WHAT IS THE WAGE AND INVESTMENT (W&I) DIVISION? The Wage & Investment Division (W&I) serves about 122 million taxpayers who file upwards of 94 million returns each year. Key W&I objectives are to provide high-quality taxpayer assistance, and to enable taxpayers to transact and communicate electronically to file their returns, make payments and receive assistance. W&I partners with private organizations to provide assistance to such disadvantaged groups as elderly and low-income taxpayers.As a Printing Services Assistant you will:
Operate multiple electronic printing systems to produce a variety of documents and other IRS related material. Identify problem areas that impact the efficiency of the work performed and work with analysts or technicians to suggest resolutions and corrections to these problem areas. Utilize technical guides and specialized equipment for setup, trouble shooting, and correction of system problems. Perform daily and weekly maintenance functions in accordance with operating manuals, manufacturer recommendations and established procedures. Maintain records of work completed and insure production units are recorded for reporting purposes. Monitor the performance of government contracts and contractors in the performance of printing, binding, imaging, and mailing of tax forms and publications. Inspect tax forms for form-to-form registration, trim size, color, ink, etc., to determine if they meet specifications. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
GRADE-6 LEVEL:
You must have One (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the federal government. Specialized experience is experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the knowledge, skills and abilities required for successful job performance. To be qualifying, your experience must be sufficient to demonstrate working knowledge of input and output requirements for printers, working knowledge of computer applications and software (e.g. Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite), printing terminology, production, and the operation of production and mail processing equipment; working knowledge of the setup, operation, adjustments and system messages of electronic print systems to perform preventive maintenance and to take corrective actions when error conditions occur; experience in applying knowledge of the rules, regulations, guidelines and procedures relating to the production of materials using electronic systems; experience in working independently and in a team environment. In addition, your experience must demonstrate the ability to provide training and monitoring and serve as a resource guide to others in the workplace. - The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service.
