Summary

SunPower is seeking a senior reliability engineer to be part of the world R+D group at SunPower Corporation. This person should be an independent thinker and a self-driven individual with demonstrated ability to deliver results under a demanding environment and timeline. In this role, he/she will be responsible for proactive solar module reliability research for new product and new technology reliability.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and carrying out reliability test plans, developing new testing methods and data analysis, and determining root cause of any test failures. They should have a good understanding of existing standard solar module test procedures as well as the skillset to design and analyze new tests, including a firm background in statistics for design of experiments, comparisons of groups, and model creation. The candidate should be familiar with FMEA and FMEA-based test design. Other responsibilities include analysis of historical data to improve future test plans for accuracy improvement and resource reduction.

Education and Experience

  • BS+4 years experience/MS
    2 years experience/PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or related engineering fields.

  • Experience in data management and analysis, including real time data visualization, correlation, and analysis.

  • Experience testing and analyzing solar module components and designs

  • Fundamental understanding of solar module degradation mechanisms and descriptive mathematical models for such is preferred

  • Experience in Photovoltaics module and/or cell testing preferred

  • Hands-on approach to challenges with good problem solving skills

  • Experience in product reliability testing

  • Familiar with photovoltaics device and their electrical performance, including analyzing IV curves and relating parameters to physical characteristics of the solar module

  • Familiar with standard PV module reliability testing (IEC, UL, etc.)

  • Familiar with solar module materials and processes

  • Familiar with FMEA, DOE, 8D, Root Cause Analysis

  • Experience determining acceleration factors for accelerated lifetime testing is a plus

Other Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, written and presentation skills.

  • Writes concise and precise reports and presentations that include critical information.

  • Expresses inputs and opinions clearly in meetings

  • Computer/software knowledge. Knowledge of MS Office tools, statistical analysis of data (e.g. JMP) and Excel.

  • Project management skills.

  • Results oriented.

  • Keeps to the objectives unless necessary to change, then communicates changes to all involved.

  • Able to work on a timeline and manage multiple aspects of a project or multiple projects effectively

  • Self-management skills.

  • Elevates issues when appropriate. Ensures that stakeholders are aware of critical and potential problems.

  • Anticipates what might go wrong when planning implementations. Finds ways to improve the process.

  • Assumes responsibility; not just for own area, but upstream and downstream areas too. Appropriately accepts responsibilities for failures. Follows up with key partners to ensure clear priorities. Documents and shares findings and key learnings to the group.

  • Be willing to travel (international) up to 50% for business trips with short notice.
